Misplaced Driftwood [Haiku]

on a green hillside
stands a line of dead trees,
looking like driftwood

Fleeting Agoraphobia [Poem]

the world beyond my window
seems so very far away
like looking from a spacecraft
at a dim and foggy day

Alone in a Crowd [Couplets]

He sits alone. His barstool straight,
it faces forward - not askew.

The room is full, the music loud.
He stares through his half-empty brew.

He's oblivious to all else --
all alone in the human zoo.

Himalayan Oasis [Haiku]

on the arid steppe
sits a green oasis -
patchwork fields

Gompa [Haiku]

mountain Gompa,
fused to the mountainside
as if carved from rock

Those Who Bled for the City [Free Verse]

blood runs to the gutters,
flowing and whirling,
a sluicing pink juice
that circles and sloshes
down the drain

most did not feel
the missing blood,
but it came from
each and every one
of them -

the locals, the exiled,
the travelers, and
the ne'er-do-wells -

all bled into the city,
and something grew
from that protein slurry

most contributed only
drips & drops,
but some hemorrhaged,
giving their liquid selves
for something
they couldn't
anticipate

Mekong Canoe [Haiku]

the tilting boat
slips the nipa labyrinth
with silent ease

Pregnant Pause [Kyōka]

breathes in - pauses;
the expected words
do not come;
that rare instance when
mental filters work

Blue [Haiku]

the boat sits
as if the scene were painted
in shades of blue
