Racing Darkness [Haiku]

Scurry [Haiku]

shore birds scurry,
evading rolling surf,
like playful kids.

“On this wondrous sea” (4) by Emily Dickinson [w/ Audio]

On this wondrous sea
Sailing silently,
Ho! Pilot, ho!
Knowest thou the shore
Where no breakers roar --
Where the storm is o'er?

In the peaceful west
Many the sails at rest --
The anchors fast --
Thither I pilot thee --
Land Ho! Eternity!
Ashore at last!

Seaside Sunset [Haiku]

red-hot steel glow:
sun crawls toward
wine-dark seas.

“Break, Break, Break” by Alfred Tennyson [w/ Audio]

Break, break, break,
On thy cold gray stones, O Sea!
And I would that my tongue could utter
The thoughts that arise in me.

O, well for the fisherman's boy,
That he shouts with his sister at play!
O, well for the sailor lad,
That he sings in his boat on the bay!

And the stately ships go on
To their haven under the hill;
But O for the touch of a vanish'd hand,
And the sound of a voice that is still!

Break, break, break
At the foot of thy crags, O Sea!
But the tender grace of a day that is dead
Will never come back to me.

What I Know about Beaches [Free Verse]

On a sandy beach,
I think of each grain
of sand as being
the same.

But on a pebble beach,
Each stone has its own
color, texture, size,
and shape.

It's made me second guess
What I know about beaches.

Buffeted [Haiku]

wind buffeted:
the coast is vibrant green
but wintery cold.
