Shadow Flowers [Haiku]

clouds break up;
light shifts toward
wildflower patch.

Rain Dance [Haiku]

ripples dance
on a flooded paddy
as rain starts, slowly.

Rainy Day Graveyard [Free Verse]

Rainy day
Graveyard:

Green grass
Glistens
Between row on row
Of low gravestones.

Droplets dash
Against the marble
And against
The brass plaques --
Silently.
Though a steady patter
Of drips on leaves
Sings through.

A poncho-clad figure
Walks through the
Sprawling war memorial ---
Alone.

Patter [Haiku]

sparse patter
on leaves outside the window:
half-hour after rain.

Heron [Haiku]

a heron stalks
amid rice seedlings:
mild Summer day.

Stall: A Haiku Quartet

clouds glide in
like a naval armada,
only to loiter.

the sky is gray,
but no rain comes --
just the threat.

the threat wears thin --
unheeded until
thunder cracks!

a man shakes his fist
at the dense clouds:
a torrent falls.

PROMPT: Cold Weather

How do you feel about cold weather?

In the abstract, sitting here in the tropics, I’m fond of the idea of winter. When I’m in cold weather, I’d prefer not to be.

Foul Wind [Lyric]

Trees are wagging,
Whipping, and waving
That were still but
A moment ago.
Dark clouds snuck in
With pattering rain,
But, oh, how those
Foul winds do blow!

Foresight [Senryū]

from the hilltop,
Spring downpour creeps nearer;
me, sans raingear.
