cool, idyllic day:
 summer rallies a last stand,
  before the Fall.

hay is baled, and
 the pasture is empty: 
  still, but for cloud drift.

cypress tips
 glow with afternoon sun:
  yellow for a time.

twin butterflies 
 spiral around each other
  with spastic gravity.

cattails, willows, &
 river: each has its own rhythm
  in a summer breeze.

diligent spider 
 works its catch
  into a meal.

in stillness,
 the mantis becomes
  vegetation.
