Day’s End Fail [Senryū]

at day's end,
the sun dips behind a tree,
but fails to hide.

Funnel-web Spider [Senryū]

funnel-web spider
sprints out -- tremor-triggered --
miffed to see hiker.

Full Moon [Senryū]

a drunk staggers
around the corner, and stares
into the full moon.

Prickly [Senryū]

a swallowtail
lands on a thorny thistle,
resting in comfort.

Late to the Hunt [Senryū]

tardy deer hunter
finds a deer grazing beside
his hunter's stand.

Fēnggān [Senryū]

the monk rode in
on a bright-eyed tiger, and
started hulling rice.

Bonsai [Haiku]

a bonsai tree:
gnarled & twisted,
yet so strong.

Sneaky Trees [Senryū]

it seems trees sneak --
in ones and twos -- up the hill,
as the woods watch.

Poppy Mind [Haiku]

wild poppies
take my mind to a tragic
poem learned in youth.

Magpie [Haiku]

the magpie walks
with head hung low,
fooling no one.
