PROMPT: Live Performance

Daily writing prompt
What was the last live performance you saw?

A local theater group’s performance of “My Fair Lady” a couple months ago… Unless, you count several minutes watching a group of fire jugglers on the beach in Krabi.

“One of the ‘Hundred Views of Fuji,’ by Hokusai” by Amy Lowell [w/ Audio]

     Being thirsty,
I filled a cup with water,
And, behold! -- Fuji-yama lay upon the water,
Like a dropped leaf!

The Oldest & the Last [Free Verse]

Kipling called prostitution
The world's oldest profession.

Now, I'm pretty sure that it
Will be the last, as well:

The last professional endeavor --
The last profitable activity --
That humans do better than
Machines.

Whores will be the last holdouts
To shift from being workers
To being Artists of Humanity. . .
Or - maybe - they will be
The first in that, as well.

Dragons [Lyric Poem]

I see Dragons on the walls
Of temples and market stalls.
From Shanghai to London way,
I've seen them by night and day.
I've seen them skewered by St. George
And belching flame like a forge.
I saw one once in Baku,
But never saw one in a Zoo.

Picture Horse [Lyric Poem]

Stacks and stacks
of wooden plaques:
Prayers on front,
Art on the back.

Each a wish
and a dream?
More an expression,
or so it seems.

Whatever prayer
may be writ,
There’s always
something
more to it.

A need to show
one’s unique soul:
To tell the world
that one is whole.

A life reduced
to a shingle:
Multitudes,
to a single.
