Lusaka Limerick

There was a gambling man of Lusaka
who was always running low on Kwacha.
That's the money, you see,
and despite ardent pleas
when you're a gambler no one will spot 'cha.

Eruption [Free Verse]

It's such a peaceful cone,
 but I think of Krakatoa.

How much patience
 can a volcano have?

It's got just the two speeds:
 static & exploding.

A human, given those choices,
would choose to spend its time
  in explosion.

The calm of perfect stillness
 could last only so long
  before it made one itch
   and scream.

Someday, it will blow its
 beautifully symmetric top,
  leaving a jagged rim,
   and smoking like a
    postcoital movie character.

Hitler Limerick

There once was a dictator named Hitler.
He was vegetarian and wasn't a tippler.
The moral seems clear:
eat meat & drink beer.
You'll still be much better than Hitler!

Andy Warhol Limerick

There was an artist named Andy Warhol
whose paintings sure enough weren't for all.
Like a flimflam man
he copied soup cans,
and viewers saw [not Campbell, but] Warhol.

Conflicted Botanist Limerick

There once was a Philosopher-Botanist
who, on his jobs, had been an optimist.
But he bred seedless fruits,
and came to feel in cahoots
with purpose-denying nihilist dogmatists.

Buddha Still [Haiku]

Buddha is still;
the clouds wander...
one crow caws

A Moment of Stillness [Haiku]

the moment before
a sneaky monkey
makes mischief
