sunrise paints the haze
 the color of campfire flames,
  and nothing looks real,
 but rather like a painting
 by an artist, skilled & lazy.

a barren tree
 paints dancing shadows 
  on the sandy canyon.

in the dark valley,
 eyes settle on the one hilltop
 graced by sunlight.

Morning Glories sit,
 coolly, in the shadow of
  Mexican Sunflowers.

after Spring rains,
 puddles throw reflections 
  of light-fringed clouds.

sunlight shines
 through the butterfly's wing:
  yet, it seems sluggish.

from valley shadow,
 the sun-warmed mountain
  glows more brightly.

sun shimmer
 in a dense patch looks like
  a sheet of ice.

the morning sun
 shines through the canopy.
  understory: dungeon.

summer sun so bright
 the sunflowers take a break,
  & turn backs to light.
