the lizard
that stares skyward
makes me look

the tailed jay
is the only shade of green
that's not camouflage

baby monkey
seems to contemplate chains,
or i anthropomorphize?

dog guards church
by being a trip-hazard...
and doing it well

the cat that conforms
to a hollow in the wall
won't conform elsewise

soft, round hills
under cottony clouds, yet
the hike is so hard

the Roller,
when asked its color,
said, "all of them."

noisy parakeets
loop above the neighborhood:
just flockin' around

crumbling ruins
sit amid the pasturelands. 
that's progress.
