Obdurate Orbweaver

some spiders scurry
when their web trembles,
but not the orbweaver.

Lonely Egret [Haiku]

lonely egret
wades in calm water,
awaiting lunch.

Snake Fisher [Haiku]

snake wrestles fish
onto rocky home turf, &
blends with sun-warmed stones.

Frogs Heard, Not Seen [Haiku]

grass-rattle, plop!
grass-rattle, plop! -- repeats...
at last, I see a frog.

Camouflage, Not! [Haiku]

a squirrel chitters;
its black body against
 the ash gray tree.

Pollinator [Haiku]

the bee wallows
in pollen like a drunk
sprawls on a bar’s floor.

Stalking Tiger [Free Verse]

A giant tiger stalks,
baring teeth, tensing claws,
closing the distance
in deep shadows that exist
entirely within the man's mind.

While others, from safe distances,
can see the fearsome beast clearly.

“A Noiseless Patient Spider” by Walt Whitman [w/ Audio]

A noiseless patient spider,
I mark'd where on a little promontory it stood isolated,
Mark'd how to explore the vacant vast surrounding,
It launch'd forth filament, filament, filament out of itself,
Ever unreeling them, ever tirelessly speeding them.

And you O my soul where you stand,
Surrounded, detached, in measureless oceans of space,
Ceaselessly musing, venturing, throwing, seeking the spheres to connect them,
Till the bridge you will need be form'd, till the ductile anchor hold,
Till the gossamer thread you fling catch somewhere, O my soul.

Urban Jungle [Kyōka]

in a city park,
muscular baobabs &
wiry strangler figs
provide residences
for the fierce squirrels.

Sanctum Discord [Haiku]

the inner sanctum:
an insect chirps ceaselessly,
 but remains unseen.
