vacated

lakeshore ducks
with heads turtle-tucked
against autumn winds

a rustic shack
sits upon the hillside;
the glade, its porch

autumn’s dry grass
looks so brittle, but
waves gracefully

sunset flares;
& looks like a fire
on the horizon

striped mountain —
long shadows lie across
the forest floor

rhododendron
and mountain-ash ring
the mountaintop

yellow hoods
on red berries 
warm my mind

autumn afternoon —
the sun dips behind the hill,
faux sunset

water roils,
its flow is lost in
chaotic motion
