old stone wall,
now overgrown with moss:
live & not alive?

neon signs fire, pulse, 
and send shimmers of light
between the black spaces

the cat that conforms
to a hollow in the wall
won't conform elsewise

in the dim temple,
candlelight flickers,
and bronze moves

dried plants
bobble in an autumn breeze
with erratic shakes

sunlight fires up
one patch of fall color
engulfed by shadelands

monitor lizard
trudges peppily for the
 cool morning hours

shades of orange
when paired with brisk air
put me in autumn mind

city lights
cast a many-colored glow 
between dark spaces

a thick cloud
parks in front of the sun,
and says, “Not today!”
