penetrates the pavilion —-
causing napper’s turn.

in woods' shade,
cattle sit or stand, &
file barn-ward at dusk.

Short Days [Haiku]

light drains away before
the sun is down.

Winter Afternoon [Haiku]

Winter afternoon.

DAILY PHOTO: Nam Song Afternoon

“There’s a certain Slant of light” (320) by Emily Dickinson [w/ Audio]

There's a certain slant of light,
Winter Afternoons --
That oppresses, like the Heft
Of Cathedral Tunes --

Heavenly Hurt, it gives us --
We can find no scar,
But internal difference --
Where the Meanings, are --

Non may teach it -- Any --
'Tis the seal Despair --
An imperial affliction
Sent us of the Air --

When it comes, the Landscape listens --
Shadows -- hold their breath --
When it goes, 'tis like the Distance
On the look of Death --

Autumn Light [Haiku]

the sun is low,
but then it never gets high
this time of year.

Summer Sun [Haiku]

summer sun
 turns the sky orange;
  skin prickles.

Good Light [Haiku]

low afternoon sun
 makes the old mountains
  look crisply creased.
