Tiger Riding for Beginners

Traveling Poet Philosopher & Occasional Wiseacre

bougainvilleas
 beside the grand temple steps
 have dropped petals,
 but it seems the gardners
never let them hit the ground.

the river trickles.
 but its broad shoulders tell
 of expectations.

in a city park,
 muscular baobabs &
  wiry strangler figs
 provide residences
 for the fierce squirrels.

cat on a porch rail
 preens between naps
 to look good
 for the twenty waking
 minutes of its day.

the inner sanctum:
 an insect chirps ceaselessly,
 but remains unseen.

in the dark valley,
eyes settle on the one hilltop
 graced by sunlight.

a walk in the park:
 i breathe, we breathe,
 then we are breath.

waves crash ashore,
 churning waves to foam,
 white coastal frill.

clouds dance around
 the gibbous moon’s bright orb,
  one warm winter night.

under gray skies,
 the flooded paddies
  amplify winter gloom.
