young red leaf, on a sapling in Spring, slowly grows green. doesn't it know it should start green, and turn red in the Fall?

big, busy leaf:
light bullets through,
too fast to process.
I stared, and stared, into a leaf
until my vision changed.
And I could see the whole, wide world
so artfully arranged.
The leaf, it mapped my universe
from atom to the sprawl.
Compressed, layer-on-layer, there
was one and, at once, all.
But before I could grasp all that
this vision truly meant,
a gust of wind did catch that leaf,
and fluttering it went.

the evergreen’s
time to shine: when the last
leaf has fallen

leaves are falling
throughout the city, &
someone sweeps them up

foggy Autumn day.
wet leaves flutter downward,
in surrender

one autumn tree
contains all the colors:
spring green to winter ____
