Grassy Bank [Haiku]

Autumn morn sunlight
brightens the grassy bank,
& throws long shadows.

Chimpanzee [Lyric Poem]

Our closest relative, the Chimpanzee
Lacks our affinity to be fancy.
To them we are but pant-wearing buffoons
Who've lost all freedom to shoot the moon.

Day’s End Fail [Senryū]

at day's end,
the sun dips behind a tree,
but fails to hide.

Grasshoppers [Haiku]

walking in rice stalk,
grasshoppers ping forward,
plink - plink - CRUNCH - plink...

Funnel-web Spider [Senryū]

funnel-web spider
sprints out -- tremor-triggered --
miffed to see hiker.

Upriver [Haiku]

chugging upriver,
past karst spires, the boaters’
time seems to slow.

Asian Weaver Ant [Lyric Poem]

There once was a wee Asian Weaver Ant
Who lived on a big banana tree plant.
When they cut down his tree, a problem arose,
Moving to a rubber tree would be too on-the-nose.

Water Lily [Haiku]

a water lily
opens in the morning sun:
reciprocal glow.

Lingerers [Haiku]

side-by-side trees:
one bloom-laden; one with
a few lingerers.
