Snake [Lyric Poem]

I saw a snake had made a gnarly bed --
On logs and stones, its length did curl and thread.
Ah, to be comfy on bark's ragged bumps...
I wake up when PJ's wad to a lump.

Black Mamba [Lyric Poem]

The Black Mamba is not black...
Well, it's black inside its mouth,
But if you're getting that view,
Things have definitely gone south.

Snake Fisher [Haiku]

snake wrestles fish
onto rocky home turf, &
blends with sun-warmed stones.

Tree Snake [Senryū]

a snake crawls 
down out of a tree…
i have questions.

a brown branch
runs beside the green branch
that isn't a branch

scheming whisper?
i fear as much, but then i
remember snakes have no ears

the cobra rises:
eyes fixed & tongue darting --
all 's still; nothing 's calm

Copperhead [Common Meter]

I walked along a well-worn trail
with no intent but rest.
I wished to be soothed by the trees,
but found myself distressed.

For in my path rested a snake,
known as the copperhead --
 a breed that has inspired wonder
and no uncertain dread. 

I gave the snake full attention,
and then gave it wide berth,
but it must have been far too wide
for I walked right off the earth.
