early Spring seed pods
 of Red Maple hold tight 
  - patiently —
 til one day in late Spring: 
  they’ll drop, spin, and fly.

gone to fluff:
 flowers quietly await a
  good, stiff breeze.

the land rests
 after the harvest;
  birds feed on remnants.

a sparrow hops
 over the cobbles,
  seeking seeds.

in commonplace grass:
 a hidden delicacy 
  for tiny birds.

ice crystals form
on helicopter seed pods;
will they fly or crash?

in dry autumn air
seed pods split wide,
awaiting a breeze

green seed pods
blush to blood red,
then split open

over the river,
a seed pod twirls toward
the creeping waters,
and thus a lazy seed
will hitch a thousand miles
