All Eyes [Haiku]

yellow fluff
clamped in a bird's beak -
now, the new leader.

Oblivious [Haiku]

crows turn to threat:
while pigeons remain
oblivious.

Pigeon King [Haiku]

pigeons mill about --
then one finds color
in the gray city.

Pigeons [Lyric Poem]

There’s a writhing pile of pigeons —
Not two or a few or a smidgen —
You can raise their clout, and call them doves,
But I’m glad they're not on the wires above.

Feeding Frenzy [Haiku]

frenzied pigeons:
a tight, geometric horde—
until food’s end.

Disappearing Pigeons [Haiku]

a cloud of pigeons
wheels about in a broad loop;
a thin batch returns.

Birds Wheel About [Free Verse]

a flock of pigeons
mills about in a lazy dance,
pecking and shifting

then explode into
panicked flapping,

as they wheel about,
gaining spontaneous unity,
reaching investigation mode,

they bank heavily,
like a C-130 gunship --
a Puff the Magic Dragon --
pivoting onto a target

The base of this statue of Swami Shraddhanand (1856–1926) is a popular point for feeding the birds. It’s located in front of the Town Hall building on Chandni Chowk.
