Great Blue Heron [Lyric Poem]

Photograph of a Great Blue Heron crossing a pond along the Roswell Greenway Trail in Roswell, Georgia.
Skittish is the Great Blue Heron.
It feels when you're stopped and starin'
and will crisscross water like Charon
to keep you on the other side.

Great Blue Heron [Haiku]

heron alights at water’s edge,
becoming a statue.

Heron at Dusk [Haiku]

dusky summer eve:
a heron wades in shallows,
blindly fishing.

Reflection [Haiku]

heron & reflection drift apart
until one of them vanishes.

Conversation [Senryū]

two wading birds
face each other so that
their reflections can chat.

Ibis [Lyric Poem]

The Egyptians found the Ibis sacred.
This must have made the Ibis elated.
I watched one try to push a Heron around;
The unimpressed Heron just stood its ground.

Home Invasion [Haiku]

the heron stares at
the unwitting egret’s back:
unfond of flatmate?

Weightless [Haiku]

a heron stands tall
at the branch’s end,
as if weightless.

Lily Pad [Haiku]

lily pad sprawl:
herons march, beak-down,
on the shifting surface.

Heron [Haiku]

a perched heron
watches ripples of its
last attempt fade.
