PROMPT: Concert

Daily writing prompt
What is the best concert you have been to?

I don’t know about “best.” I’ve lived a lot of life. But we went to a Christmas concert in St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans this past Christmas that was a pretty awesome experience (that I can still remember.)

PROMPT: Best Thing

Daily writing prompt
Which is the best thing to do in your city?

I’m fond of the hiking trails.

PROMPT: Spree

Daily writing prompt
Where would you go on a shopping spree?

I’m not a fan of the “spree.” I don’t like a shopping spree and I don’t like a murder spree and I really don’t like a shopping mall shopping / murder spree.

PROMPT: Biggest Challenge

Daily writing prompt
What is the biggest challenge you will face in the next six months?

I certainly have my ideas, but I’m not going to jinx it or create a self-fulfilling prophecy on the matter. Sometimes the easy is hard and the hard comes easy, and — above all — people suck at making predictions (except in the case of self-fulfilling prophesies.)

PROMPT: Year You Were Born

Daily writing prompt
Share what you know about the year you were born.

I’m told Nixon was in the White House and the Beatles broke up, but I don’t really know anything about it. (If you want to get epistemological about it.)

PROMPT: Didn’t Need Sleep

Daily writing prompt
If you didn’t need sleep, what would you do with all the extra time?

I assume just a little more of all the things I already do, with a substantial amount of that time being spent in rest.

The thought, “If I didn’t have to rest I could do so much more” is one of modern life’s most cancerous modes of thinking.

Didn’t we all learn during the pandemic that when commutes and other travel / in-person time obligations go away, life fluidly swells to fill the void. Like having to learn Zoom, etc.

Life gives no free lunches, learn to live with it.

PROMPT: First Time

What could you try for the first time?

My problem is that I’m old enough that all the low hanging fruit has been consumed, meaning most “first times” involve a serious time investment. For example, I’d love to go skydiving, but you can’t just jump out of a plane, you have to either watch a safety video or sabotage a plane. All for a five-minute experience. And if you don’t want to do it with a stranger strapped intimately close to you, you need to do probably watch several safety videos and practice pulling a cord over and over again. [Question: They sometimes ask if you’d like a male or female massage therapist when you get a massage, but I’ve never heard of being given the option when tandem skydiving. How come it’s ok to be homophobic, or hetero-phobic, in one instance, but not the other? Just asking.]

PROMPT: Grown Up

When was the first time you really felt like a grown up (if ever)?

The first time I went drove to another state and stayed in a hotel on my own (late teens, obviously after getting a driver’s license — but a year or more before graduating high school.)

PROMPT: Plan

Daily writing prompt
How do you plan your goals?

Haphazardly with a side of slapdashery.

PROMPT: Notable

What notable things happened today?

Israel bombed Iran, so we’ll see what that triggers.

Authorities confirmed that only one person is known to have survived the tragic Ahmedabad – London flight crash yesterday. Just like the movie “Unbreakable.”

Other than that, it was all just tales of the slow descent of mankind.
