Wasp [Lyric Poem]

I look straight upward and I see
A wasp nest hanging over me:
By a mere twig it's dangling,
And this, my nerves, is jangling.

Bee [Lyric Poem]

I see the humble bumble bee,
Or should I say I see its rump.
It snugged in, made itself cozy --
To get away it's far too plump.

Sound & Silence [Haiku]

insects chirp
under autumn skies; the
river runs silent.

Shadow Play [Haiku]

a butterfly
plays with shape & shadow
on a sunlit leaf.

Last Dance [Haiku]

tattered butterfly
comes to rest after a
spastic last dance.

Right-Side-Down [Haiku]

the butterfly
knows no upside-down, only
where the flowers are.

Dark Evening Brown [Senryū]

a Dark Evening Brown
flits about the woods on a
bright morning, Brown.

Hive [Haiku]

the wasp hive:
its crescent entrances
see steady to & fro.

“Cicada’s Cry” by Matsuo Bashō [w/ Audio]

the stillness --
soaking into stones
cicada's cry
