red berries
 encased in ice:
  silver storm surprise.

rainy autumn day:
 wet leaves drop heavily
  as a lazy mob.

the treetop leaves
 that catch early & late sun
  are the first to fall.

a tree lies, fallen:
 uprooted where others
  stand straight & true.

such light green leaves
 for the end of summer: 
  doesn’t that tree know?

it’s cool & rainy, 
 but the canopy is green:
  last days of summer.

a mined gouge
 in the hilly, green landscape:
  reclaimed by trees.

to human eyes,
 the man-made stands out —
  while trees seem the same

cypress tips
 glow with afternoon sun:
  yellow for a time.
