Green Front [Haiku]

squall line coming:
the rains will freshen the fort,
  those walls grown green.

Cloud Ceiling [Haiku]

cloud touches hill
as if it's resting on it.
  smell of spring rains.

Imposing Clouds [Tanka]

imposing clouds
 seem to hover over
  the palace,
but then one sees the drift,
 and they are drifting nearer.

Living Backwards [Tanka]

young red leaf,
 on a sapling in Spring,
  slowly grows green.
doesn't it know it should start green,
and turn red in the Fall?

Grass Waves [Haiku]

when calmness hushes
the Spring winds, the grass still
  waves off the departed.

Season of Rain [Haiku]

boot sinks in mud.
rain halts; it rains some more.
  dry? vaguely recalled.

Springtime [Haiku]

spring is here.
 the hills have greened.
  the field is plowed.

Seasons [Free Verse]

I

I remember Spring:
   tight and tender buds,
   soon to blossom

clouds -- low & swollen,
& rain scent in the air
II

I remember Summers:
   the season of freedom...

and mosquitoes,
   but, also, fireflies

exploration &
   calamine lotion
III

I remember the Fall:
   harvest time

Grain chaff in the air
   axle grease on the wind

Canadian geese
   Honk-Honk-Honk-ing
   in wedge formation
IV

I remember winters:
   snow days

snow drifts

the feel of the first morning
    of the season in which
one woke up to a blanketing snow,
    having gone to bed with
    pathetic matted grass

Pelted Blossoms [Haiku]

spring flowers
hang limply, after
the downpour
