the treetop leaves
 that catch early & late sun
  are the first to fall.

sun shimmer
 in a dense patch looks like
  a sheet of ice.

a writhing dragon,
 is painted by the sunset
  in vivid colors.

shadowland edges, 
 and a liquid metal stripe:
  river sunset.

the floating leaf
 chooses its path around 
  the island
 by not choosing a path
  around the island.

tall grass sways
 beside the serene river
  one warm Fall day.

a fallen leaf
 rides the river downstream, 
  twisting lazily.

sometimes placid as
 a lake; sometimes churning
  like the ocean.

goldenrod field, 
 now subdued, will soon blaze
  in the morning sun.

wildflowers 
 own the glade
  for a few days.
