Speakeasy Stained-glass [Free Verse]

The light of a streetlamp
Streams through the stained glass,
And colors spread stably
Over surfaces below.

Then car after car
Pass by that bar,
And the colors are
Climbing and crawling,
Shifting and sprawling,
As headlamp light, briefly,
Dances through the window --
Kaleidoscope swirling the
Shockingly bright colors
In short-lived arcs.

The window was designed
To evoke a cathedral,
And deny all debauchery...

Oh, how it's failed.

Tiny Island [Haiku]

a tiny island
of blue wildflowers
in a sea of yellow.

Spring Tricks [Haiku]

early Spring leaves,
catching the morning light,
look Autumn yellow.

Low Light [Tanka]

the color blobs
cast onto floor & wall
by stained glass light
are brightest just before
the sun drops out of sight.

Stony Ground [Haiku]

from stony ground,
a dense cluster of yellow
grows defiantly.

Thistle Flowers [Haiku]

thistles are flowering,
looking spiky and dangerous,
yet soft and comely

Pansies [Haiku]

colorful pansies
catch the morning sun, and
look like peeking faces

Split Personality [Haiku]

yellow & purple 
pansies draw butterflies,
bees, & photogs.

A Tender Shade of Green [Haiku]

the leaves that hang
out over the river are
Early Spring green.

Green Growth [Haiku]

spring rains green
the fort's horizonal and
its vertical.
