beyond the woods
the mountains rise
like a dragon’s spine

mountains in autumn -
all color has blanched,
but for red berries 

the water is still,
and nothing is heard but
bird call & reply

from a mirror lake,
tall grasses grow to add 
chaos to smoothness

the koi flow,
languidly moving
through a circuit

it rained all night;
trees lie fallen -
casualties of mud
