a rainy day.
we pull over the car,
and get out to look
at the waterfall, up close:
what's spray & what's rain?

the falls rumble --
a bird flies overhead,
its song lost

tree at the fore;
cascades across the chasm,
and my eye wanders

water rolls 
over rock rounded like
a turtle's shell

atop the cascade
sits a still pool,
burbling

every cascade
begins with drips and drops
and ends in the sea

rushing waters
empty into a basin
and are still

monsoon falls -
a thunderous drone,
pitch unchanging

the waterfall,
thunderous and lofty,
is a thin stream
from across the valley,
and yet i stop & stare
