Passing Buddha [Lyric Poem]

The train is speeding down the line.
Gold Buddha glints in the sunshine.
Jarring is the train whistle’s whine,
we plunge into a dark tunnel.

That Time of Day [Tanka]

once a day
light from the setting sun gleams
off the gold Buddha,
and shines through a window
across the boulevard.

Sun Tinged [Haiku]

mountain snow:
tinged orange
by sunrise.

Understory [Haiku]

understory thrives:
light plants & shadow plants
each finds its place.

Dusky Valley [Haiku]

dusky valley:
only silvery waters
have shape & hue.

Golden Grass [Haiku]

Autumn sunlight
strikes dry pampas grass
and it flares gold.

Dusky Temple [Haiku]

under dusky skies,
a temple emits droning chants
and golden light.

Jungle Spotlight [Haiku]

butterfly on the jungle floor,
warmed by a shaft of light.

Light Rides Dark [Haiku]

rivers merge;
two cocoa hues seem unmixed,
but light rides the dark.
