Fooled by Fall [Haiku]

such light green leaves
for the end of summer:
doesn’t that tree know?

Slant Fall [Haiku]

Autumn breeze
and then a lag and then
  leaves fall slantwise.

Red Dragonfly [Haiku]

still red dragonfly:
 has the autumn gotten
  too cold for you?

Vegetive Ambiguity [Haiku]

barren trees say Fall,
 but the verdant undergrowth
  says Spring.

Autumn Colors [Haiku]

a mundane landscape -
 impossible to look away:
  autumn colors

Mirror Lake [Haiku]

autumn sky
 reflects upon the lake:
  upside down birds.

Lazy Cowbell [Haiku]

bovines graze
 in desiccated pastures:
  lazy cowbell.

Autumn Crickets [Haiku]

distant cricket chirps:
from the next hill, I wonder?
  now, one at my feet.

The Fall [Lyric Poem]

Rome fell,
     the Mongols & Ottomans, too.
 Great powers fall
     often sans much ado.

     [Psst! someday yours will, too.]

They can't help but crumble;
     the foundations get rot.
 And there's too much weight
     to bear, without spurring plots.

Plots and schemes and pandering,
     all throughout the State.
Forget those Barbarians, the threat 's
     inside the gates.
