robust by ordeals

sinuous roots
of the silk-cotton tree;
are they moving?

drapes in wild tangles, & a 
sapling - straight & green

the smooth-worn driftwood roots
assume the form
of a pile of writhing snakes,
'til the mind untangles truth

roots sprawl,
sinuously creeping.
what's it like
to hold so firm
and reach so far?
