The pictures are incredible, and they reminded me of Puerto Rico. Our cemeteries are full of structures similar to the ones in the photos. Maybe it’s part of the European touch.
Cemeteries do take up quite a bit of space in parts of New Orleans, but I have no idea what percentage cremate or put a regular grave on (relatively) high ground. Also, it should be noted that some of these mausoleum’s have a dozen names on them and others presumably also hold a large number of remains under just a family name.

In New Orleans, most all the graves are above ground mausoleums because of the high water table and flood risk.

It makes sense to have several people in each structure, as it helps with cost and maintenance. Thank you for the explanation.
