I believe it was Mutianyu. As I recall it was not terribly far outside Beijing. But that was over a decade ago, so I wouldn’t count my memory as flawless.
My wife and I hope to visit there soon. We didn’t get to go when we were in China. I just listened to a BBC story about the first guys to walk the entire wall chronicling their experience. It’s fascinating.
