I am not 100% familiar with both cultures (I have only read about them in books and meditated in a Zen dojo twice) but my guess would be that this shot was taken in Thailand rather than Japan. The monastic clothes of Thailand resemble the figure more than those of the Japanese tradition. Correct me if my guess was wrong.
