Graveyard Haiku

a headstone
worn unreadable
stone outlived bones

fresh flowers
and wild tufts of grass
tell mixed stories

granite mourners
draped over gravestones,
unweeping

no pyramid
is so sublime the Pharaoh
welcomed death

the potter’s field
has mystique unknown to
mausoleums
