PROMPT: Animal

Daily writing prompt

If you had to be an animal for a week, which one would you be and why?

I guess this means “another animal” as I have to be an animal EVERY week — i.e. Kingdom: Animal; Class: Mammal; Order: Primate; Species: H. sapiens.

Let’s see. Getting comfortable landing in a week would be a challenge, so flying / gliding animals are out. I wouldn’t want to be anything that is popular to hunt. I wouldn’t want to be anything that eats garbage. Seeing what’s in the ocean would be fun. Maybe a shark.

Opening with the taxonomy reminder that we’re all technically fulfilling this prompt every week made me grin. The reasoning-by-elimination is great too — “nothing that eats garbage” is a criterion more of us should apply to life generally. A shark is a bold pick; you’d get the full ocean tour, though I hope “must keep swimming to breathe” counts as an acceptable trade-off for the view.
