I went to Varkala in February too and it was beautiful! Stayed in Kerala which had so much wildlife and scenery nearby, one of the best parts of India for me!
You’re probably right. I’m a neophyte on the topic. Actually, I’m positive you’re right about the Bouganvillea, because that’s an extremely common variety throughout South India.

Good choice. We went in late March / early April and it was scenic, but brutally hot.

I think the top one is a Yellow Elder, the lower one is Bougainvillea. My kind of scenery!
