As far as I understand it [which may not be much], when a person follows it automatically sends them email. The follower can then choose to get them as soon as they post, daily, or as a once a week digest.
I hope that answers the question. All I know is I haven’t “done” anything to achieve that (except enable the “follow” button when I set up the site.)
